this bell hooks mixtape is excellent. It’s a rebirth of that socially-conscious Chicago hip-hop that we haven’t really seen since Lupe fizzled out and became the Ron Paul of hip-hop. Their focus is on social issues, but they approach it in a way that isn’t heavy-handed, and in fact sort of irreverent.

wonder how the Right would act if Tea Party was black?
watch Glenn Beck have a heart attack
how would Sarah Palin act
if blacks came to rallies loaded and strapped?
would she be pro-guns or scared to death?
would she call ‘em patriots or a terrorist threat?

So, apparently no real hotel in Chicago will check in anyone under 21, so I canceled my Motel 6 reservation over the phone, astonishingly profanity-free.
So I turn to the wide world of hostelling, and book Hutch and I two beds in an 8-bed room. The reviews on this place are so unsettling. It’s going to be like the sketchiest summer camp anyone ever attended.
I’m not bringing my laptop, so peoples, check my Twitter for more updates.

Who just booked his very first hotel room? This guy.

Even better - it’s a Motel 6 in the heart of Calumet Park.

Pitchfork, here we come.

Hutch and I are just trying to find the creepiest possible hotel to stay at in Chicago for LCD Soundsystem Pitchfork Music Festival.
I’m crossing my fingers - it might be that, at the end of the day, we’re too poor to go.
