I’m a little afraid of sounding boorish when I say that the first 3:40 of this song is a little dull, but it’s growing on me, and much like LCD Soundsystem’s “Dance Yrself Clean,” it’s a long setup to a payoff that totally punches you in the stomach.
That makeshift percussion noise kills me. It sounds like someone emptied their silverware drawer on their kitchen table and started dropping a dictionary on it.
Who’d have thought that a Feist song would ever make me want to punch my kitchen table?
…on some subconscious level, I was motivated by not wanting to spoon-feed any similar flavors, “1234” specifically. But that was the only song I didn’t write on The Reminder, so it wasn’t like I had to purposely try not to write another “1234”. I co-wrote it and arranged it and made it into a piece of The Reminder’s puzzle, but it’s [singer-songwriter] Sally Seltmann’s sentiment.
I feel like it’s okay to briefly discuss how terrible some of the song titles are.
“The Bad In Each Other” and “How Come You Never Go There,” especially.
I’d even venture to say that the disparity between how bad the song titles are and how good the songs actually are is comparable to the disparity between how bad Van Morrison’s album art is and how good his music is.

Lo, How a Rose E’re Blooming by Feist
I think this would have to take the title of my “Favorite Christmas Song Ever.” Specifically this version - it’s an old German hymn, but I’ve never heard another version that pulls this melody forward the way Feist does. The arrangement is just perfect.
This song has been on my computer for years and I just did a little research and found out that it originally appeared on a Best Buy Christmas music comp called “Sweet Tracks 2005.” That’s weird.
Limit to Your Love (Feist cover) by James Blake
Sometimes I daydream about what kind of music I’d make if I were a talented musician. I think that James Blake has such a cool aesthetic, embracing the full potential of his role as a producer and the control that allows (some of his music doesn’t even feature his voice), as well as having a fine ear for soul and a fairly expressive voice.
I wish I had his mind, skill or voice… although I could play the piano on this track.
